A Study of β-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Level in Pre-Eclamptic and Normotensive Pregnant Women

چکیده
Objectives: To study the role of β – hCG in pathogenesis of preeclampsia and its association with severity of preeclampsia. Materials and Methods: The prospective randomized study was conducted on 500 pregnant women of gestational pregnancy between 12 24 weeks with singleton pregnancy. According to American college of obstetrics and gynecology [ACOG, 2013], patients were classified into three groups, normal (N=250), mild pre-eclampsia (N=200) and severe pre-clampsia (N=50). Quantitative determination of hCG by sandwich enzyme immunoassay. Results were expressed as mean ±standard error. The significance of the difference between the values from different groups was determined by ANOVA. A level of P < 0.05 was defined as statistically significant. Results: Systolic and diastolic blood pressures were significantly increased in mild and severe (P < 0.001) pre-eclampsia women. The levels of urea, creatinine and uric acid were significantly increased in severe pre-eclampsia women. The serum level of maternal β-hCG was markedly raised in pre-eclampsia in comparison to controlled and parallel with the severity of pre-eclampsia. The maternal serum level of β-hCG plays one of the important role in pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia and its severity.

Beta-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (βHCG) Levels in Pre-eclamptic and Normotensive Pregnant Women
Background: Pre-eclampsia along with bleeding and infection constitute a triad that is a major cause of maternal mortality. Many factors have been recognized which can help us to determine the severity of the disease and early diagnosis of it. Since throphoblastic disorder is one of the etiological causes of pre-eclampsia, we decided to measure the level of β-hCG as a marker of detecting the ac...

Objective-Preeclampsia is one of the leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity worldwide. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of β hCG and other biochemical markers in preeclampsia and in normotensive patients . Method – This was a prospective study conducted on 50 preeclamptic (case)and 50 normotensive pregnant women (control) in obstetrics and gynaecology department o...
متن کاملComparison ofβhCG Serum level in mild pre-eclampsia and healthy pregnant women
Abstract Background and Objective: Pre-eclampsia is the most common cause of maternal and neonatal mortality. Recent studies show that there may be a relationship between chorionic gonadotropine (HCG) and pre-eclampsia. Thus we aimed at assessing the serum level of βhCG after 28th week of pregnancy in mild pre-eclamptic and healthy pregnant women. Material and Methods: In this case-contro...
متن کاملApplication of Bayesian Latent Variable Model for Early Detection of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Without A Perfect Reference Standard Test by β‐human Chorionic Gonadotropin
Background and Objectives: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a medical problem in pregnancy, and its late diagnosis can cause adverse effects in the mother and fetus. The purpose of this research was to estimate the accuracy parameters of a biomarker for early prediction of gestational diabetes in the absence of a perfect reference standard test. Methods: This study was conducted in 52...
متن کاملMaternal serum levels of interleukin-6 and β-hCG in women with hyperemesis gravidarum in the first trimester of pregnancy
Background and Objective: Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is defined as vomiting sufficiently severe to produce weight loss, dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities. Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a pro-inflammatory and trophoblast-derived cytokine has ability to induce trophoblasts to secrete human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). The purpose of our study was to assay the level of IL-6 and β-hCG in serum of pr...
